We are thrilled to announce that after months of preparation and close cooperation with Nokia, 360Cities is now live on Nokia Symbian devices in 81 countries. This opens a new distribution channel to all 360Cities photographers, whose panoramas will be seen by millions of Nokia device users.

You will need a Nokia device capable of running Nokia Maps in order to view 360Cities on your Nokia phone. How you access the service will depend on which version of Nokia Maps you are using.

Here is how it works on Nokia Maps 3.0.6: To enable the service, open Maps, tap on “More” and then check the 360Cities option. From now on all content that is visible on 360Cities site, existing and new, will be available on your Nokia device.

In Nokia Maps SR8, 360Cities is available in a separate service called Guides.

The panoramas are currently displayed in a flat Mercator projection as Symbian doesn’t have a full interactive panorama viewer at this time. We will keep working with Nokia to improve the service and add new and better features.

360Cities is already the web’s largest collection of stunning, georeferenced panoramic photos, created by a network of thousands of expert panoramic photographers from around the world. Our entire collection is already available in Google Earth and now Nokia devices have been added to the family of 360Cities distribution channels.

The following countries are included in the initial rollout: Argentina; Australia; Austria; Belarus; Belgium; Bosnia and Herzegovina; Brazil; Bulgaria; Canada; Chile; Colombia; Croatia; Cuba; Czech Republic; Denmark; Ecuador; Egypt; El Salvador; Estonia; Faroe Islands; Finland; France; French Polynesia; Georgia; Germany; Greece; Guatemala; Hong Kong; Hungary; Iceland; India; Indonesia; Iran, Islamic Republic of; Ireland; Israel; Italy; Japan; Kazakhstan; Korea, Republic of; Latvia; Lithuania; Luxembourg; Madagascar; Malaysia; Mexico; Moldova, Republic of; Mongolia; Montenegro; Morocco; Nepal; Netherlands; New Caledonia; New Zealand; Norway; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; Poland; Portugal; Puerto Rico; Romania; Russian Federation; Saudi Arabia; Serbia; Singapore; Slovakia; Slovenia; South Africa; Spain; Sweden; Switzerland; Syrian Arab Republic; Taiwan, Province of China; Thailand; Turkey; Ukraine; United Arab Emirates; United Kingdom; United States; Uruguay; Venezuela, Bolivarian Republic of; Vietnam.

Well done 360cities! Great to see more devices now supporting 360 degree images.

Pity that Nokia / Symbian does not yet have a fully interactive panorama viewer yet, but the sliding images within Nokia Maps are a great start.

Well done guys, great to see you on Nokia devices.

I look forward to seeing nokia 360 spins in future that have more life though. Think out the box and you will be able to deliver a product that looks and works much better even when working with limited technology.

    My suggestions:

    1. Stitch the images so that the end user can keep turning the 360 image. If it goes only a few frames to the one side and then needs to navigate back it does feel like a true 360.
    2. Remove the manual buttons and allow the user to navigate using the touch screen.

Looking forward to seeing updates that give these 360 apps better performance.
    Keep up the great work.

    Regards

    SimonB
