Wikipedia  Every five years Sail Bremerhaven is held, a large sailing convention that attracts tall ships from all over the world.” Götheborg is a sailing replica of an 18th century Swedish East Indiaman, a wooden sailing vessel. The original sank off Gothenburg, Sweden on 12 September 1745 while approaching its home harbour after returning from her third voyage to China. All sailors survived, but the ship was lost. When the wreckage of the vessel Götheborg was found in 1984, the idea emerged of making a replica of the vessel. The keel for the replica was laid on 11 June 1995. The vessel was built using traditional means, and is as close to the original as possible. The vessel was launched 6 June 2003 with great festivities, and the Swedish Royal Family were represented. Ten tons of hemp ropes were to be used in rigging the vessel, together with some 1,000 blocks and 1,800 m² linen sail, all produced as in the 18th century. The first trial under sail was 18 April 2005.”

The towncenter of Lemmer is very popular with all people involved with watersports. The harbour as well as the marina is also almost a homecoming for the many Germans who have stalled their yachts overthere. The harbour is also a important exchange point between the IJsselmeer and the Friesian lakes.

Heneage Street is just off Brick Lane in London’s Eastend* and is in the centre of London’s, indeed England’s, largest Bangladeshi community. They came – or rather in most cases – their parents or grandparents did – in the 1960s and made it their home. Before that, from the middle of the 19th Century to well into the 20th Century, it was the turn of poor Russian and Eastern European Jews, and before them were the Huguenots, protestants escaping persecution in Catholic France. Something overseas readers might find amusing in this photograph is the landlady of The Spitalfields standing outside her pub having a quick smoke. It might be her pub but like all pubs in the United Kingdom, smoking is strictly forbidden by law. * I prefer to write “London’s Eastend” rather than the “East End of London” because it is, has become a plce name and there for deserves its words to be jointed. Writers in Wikipedia might not agree with me. Here is one of many articles:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brick_Lane

Rishiri island is one of the most impressive mountains i have seen in Hokkaido. The peak rises straight out of the ocean and is a tough climb. One our attempt we only made it about a 3rd of the way up when it just became too windy and dangerous – seems like you have to get your timing right on this one. We came up a bit early maybe becuse the snow was sheet ice and scary up higher, we needed some softer spring snow to work with. One side of the mountain requires ice climbing gear and really to be safe i’d recommend going on a guided trip if not very experienced in ice climbing / mountain saftey. We opted of saftey and a few beers while enjoying the views once off the mountain. Wild place.

From Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanoi Hanoi (Vietnamese: Hà Nội), estimated population nearly 6.5 million (2009), is the capital and second-largest city of Vietnam. From 1010 until 1802, it was the most important political centre of Vietnam. It was eclipsed by Huế during the Nguyễn Dynasty as the capital of Vietnam, but Hanoi served as the capital of French Indochina from 1902 to 1954. From 1954 to 1976, it was the capital of North Vietnam.

Not even 15 minutes outside of New Paltz along Route 44/55 is the Mohonk Preserve. It encircles the Mohonk Mountain House property, and you can get day passes or annual passes, (highly recommended if you plan on going more than once or twice). There is great mountain climbing and bike riding and hiking along the well maintained carriage trails. Best of all, just down Clove Road, there is a swimming hole called Split Rock. Whoever named it was a great fan of truth in advertising! It is a very large rock that is split with a waterfall feeding into it. The water is between four and five feet deep – deep enough for swimming, but DON’T dive in!

Despite, or maybe because  the fact that the community of the town of Urk is very religious, it is for a many centuries very succesful in the fishery branch. Today the biggest part of the port and harbours serves as a populair marina where both daytrippers as well as hardliners are embarking for their evenings out. Eating fish is not a posibility… it is a must, because so much fresh fish is arriving from the sea every day.
