Lower Brockhampton - More Details and PhotosLower Brockhampton is an attractive 14th century moated manor house that just oozes character. The house was originally built for John Domulton, a descendant of the Brockhampton family, who have an association with the area dating back to the 12th century. You cross the moat through a crooked, half timbered gatehouse. On our first visit, swallows nesting in the eaves of the gatehouse swooped down within inches of us, as they scooped up insects from the moat to take to their young. A steep staircase in the gatehouse gives you access to the tiny room above.
