Mid-day view from the Lantern Room of the North Head Lighthouse at Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington State.The North Head Lighthouse was completed in 1896 to supplement the original lighthouse at Cape Disappointment. The first-order Fresnel lens which was installed in 1898 can be seen on display at the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center.The station was manned until 1961 when the lighthouse became automated.  Today, visitors can tour the lighthouse, climbing the 69 steps to the lantern gallery for grand views of the Cape Disappointment area.
