Utah: Goosenecks of the San Juan River

These are considered the longest set of entrenched meanders in the world. Six miles of river are compressed into a straight line distance of one and a half miles. The meanders originated on a flat flood plain, then maintained their course as the Monument Upwarp slowly raised the plateau surface until the river was in a thousand foot deep canyon.
