Aquila Earthquake damage – before and after

Mauro Contrafatto has published some excellent panoramic photos of the aftermath of the Aquila earthquake damage.

Google happened to drive through there before the earthquake! So, here are some side-by-side comparisons. This is not a quality comparison, as we did in our post about Cesky Krumlov – rather, this is one great example of the incredible utility of panoramas: documentary and geography, together!

  1. Ehi, are there any problems with your website lately?
The panos are very slow to load and the movement is not fluid at all.
It has become impossibile to see the panos.

  2. hi Claudio,

Sorry to hear that – however, movement in the panoramas not being fluid enough, would be caused by your own machine – we simply deliver you the images, and your processor deals with them. Nothing we could have done on our end would change that. I suggest you try restarting your browser or possibly your computer. Maybe your browser has leaked all your memory, or something like that.

  3. I am a freelance journalist about to visit L’Aquila, in order to see the living conditions of it’s people one year after the quake, to see how people feel about their governments efforts to rebuild their city, and to get an idea of the range of different people affected by the quake and their position one year on.

I am also looking into whether or not the new infrastructure is being built suitably to withstand future quakes.

If anyone visiting this page is from Aquila, or has had visited there since the quake it would be great if you could contact me, as I am keen to learn of your experiences for my project.

    My personal email: bighead75@msn.com

    Thanks
