Versova or Vasawe as it was originally called was is fishing village in the western suburb of Andheri in Mumbai that has in the past few decades morphed into an upscale neighborhood that houses many Stars of the Bollywodd Industry.Originally a Portuguese fort and trading post, Versova was captured by the Marathas in 1739 and then lost to the British who promptly converted this stretch of beach into a picnic location for the citizens of Mumbai. Now much of the beach is protected from erosion by a wall of rocks that prevents the monsoon high tides from eroding the coast any further.
