Japan: 1000-Year-Old Japanese Wisteria

This is a panorama taken under the large (420 square meters/4500 square feet) scaffold for Japanese wisteria in Otoshi Shrine, Japan.The wisteria is said to have been planted here in 960. This is why the wisteria is called “Sennen Fuji”. Sennen means 1000 years, Fuji means wisteria.Wisteria is in full bloom around the beginning of May.
