I saw Jimi Hendrix with his sidemen Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding at a live concert in Texas in 1968. The performance was an explosive tour de force, dominated by Jimi’s astonishing and seemingly effortless musical virtuosity. During the finale, when Jimi smashed his Stratocaster against the wall of speakers, everyone in the audience was on their feet with their mouths hanging open, stunned. I will never forget it. It is ironic that his final resting place, at Greenwood Memorial Park, is not too far from where I live. Jimi remains very popular today and there were several groups visiting his grave before I took this panorama. Notice the many lipstick kisses left by his admirers.
