Fairyland Trail Loop in Bryce Canyon National Park is one of the less crowded trails in the park and at just over 8 miles long the loop is stunningly picturesque. We entered from Fairyland Point and dropped into the canyon under dark skies. A half a mile in it started hailing in earnest and the wind was blowing furiously. After waiting ten minutes the hail stopped and we got some sun breaks and continued on. The weather was intermittently raining or hailing or partly sunny throughout the hike. The trail drops into the canyon then climbs and drops again before the bigger climb out to Sunrise Point and then climbs and drops some more on the 2.5 mile rim trail back to Fairyland Point. Amazingly beautiful route but you must pay attention to the trail as there are many precipitous drop offs along the route. There are various reports on elevation gain but the Park Service handout at the park reports a 1,716 total elevation change.
