Pacific Ocean Islands: World War II Japanese Gun on Betio Island, South Tarawa

During World War II the Japanese had occupied Betio island and set up a series of guns on the south shore.  This is the location of the Battle of Tarawa where US forces took over control over the island in one of the deadliest battles in the Pacific arena.
